Large Ivory Chess Set & Table
A one-of-a-kind showpiece. Early 1900s Chinese genuine elephant tusk exquisitely hand-carved and etched ivory chess set sitting in a carved 47″x 66″ chess table (circa 1950s), with kneeling end-benches and removable glass top. Kings and queens are 10″ hollow ivory (base of trunks) filled with plaster-of-Paris. All other pieces are solid ivory (tip of trunks.) Dark pieces were stained with tea leaves. All signed on the bottom by artist. Pre-ban dating and authentication paperwork pending. Identification provided by the Curator of Asian Art at the Philadelphia Art Museum (who asked if it could be donated to the museum.) Displayed off-site; private viewing by appointment.
