1930s Bronze Demley Old Snifter Corkscrew & Bottle Opener
$85.00
This is a vintage 1930s prohibition era bronze Demley Old Snifter corkscrew and bottle opener which was inspired by ‘Mr. Dry’. This figural opener resembles Andrew John Volstead with a congressional ribbon on his left lapel, Andrew John Volstead was an American member of the United States House of Representatives from Minnesota, 1903–1923, and a member of the Republican Party, he is best remembered as the author of the Volstead Act which is officially the National Prohibition Act of 1919.
Made of bronze, the bottle opener is created by the figure’s nose and collar. The metal corkscrew is hidden in the figure’s coat tails and folds up to open corked bottles, it easily folds down to hide when not in use. His hat is removable (I can’t remove it, afraid of damaging by forcing), leaving a small opening that possibly held toothpicks. A congressional ribbon decorates his lapel. The base of this opener was used to crush ice. Manufactured by Heller of Chicago. Perfect condition.
